People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Gathering Space” | 2007 ASID Showcase House

The design goal for this project was to restore an incredibly outdated and unusable porch in a Victorian home
on Summit Avenue in St. Paul, MN.

Artifacts

Inspired by the Victorian passion for travel and collecting treasures from far-off lands, this design concept brings a modern interpretation to the space. Drawing from the excitement of exploration and the vibrant spirit of river life, the design captures the essence of adventure while embracing the stunning views of the Mississippi River Valley.

The space was thoughtfully crafted to encourage moments of lingering and reflection, blending timeless charm with contemporary updates that celebrate the joy of travel and the beauty of nature.

Midnight at the Oasis

This enchanting space is a seamless blend of antiques, globally sourced treasures, and pieces that celebrate the charm of river life. Thai carvings and a beaded hat from Burma coexist effortlessly with a hand-carved chair from Tanzania and a pair of 19th-century bronze leopards from the Benin Kingdom.

The curated collection is enhanced by lush greenery, inviting the outdoors in and adding a sense of vitality to the space. Once open to the elements and underutilized, the space has been transformed into a captivating retreat, inviting that no one wants to leave. It truly lives up to its name, Midnight at the Oasis.
